Our brave colleague Himanshu Joshi was beaten in our own campus by outsiders on 9th February, 2014 night. There are 4 sections imposed on offenders: IPC 331, 341, 447 and 506. Let see it in brief.
IPC 331
Chapter XVI (Of offenses affecting the human body) section 331. It writes 
“Voluntarily causing grievous hurt to extort confession, or to compel restoration of property”
Punishment: Punishment with imprisonment of either description for term which may extend to 10 years and shall also be liable to fine. It is non bailable and triable by court of session. Non compoundable.
IPC 341
Chapter XVI (Of offenses affecting the human body) section 341. It write
“Punishment for wrongful restraint”.
Punishment: Whoever wrongfully restrains any person shall be punished with simple imprisonment for a term which may extend to one month or fine extending up to Rs. 500. It is bailable. Triable by magistrate. Compoundable by the person restrained or confined.
IPC 447
Chapter XVII (Of offenses against property) section 447. It writes 
“Punishment for criminal trespassing”.
Punishment: Imprisonment for 3 months or fine of Rs. 500. It is bailable and triable by any magistrate. Compoundable by the person in possession of the property trespassed upon.
IPC 506
Chapter XXII (Of criminal intimidation, insult and annoyance) section 506. It writes 
“Punishment for criminal intimidation”.
Punishment: For a term which may extend to two years or with fine or with both. It is bailable and triable by any magistrate. There are classification of offences.
Para I: Punishable as written.
Para II: Imprisonment for 7 years or fine or both. Bailable, triable by magistrate of the first class. Non compoundable.
